Artistic residency > Simon Leroux at the Chapelle de l’Oratoire

This post is also available in: Français (French)

From October 15 to 24, Simon Leroux will be in residence at the Oratory Chapel. At the end of this period, you will be able to discover Tout flamme, an exhibition on the representation of a memory at the border between reality and events distorted by our brain.

Project presentation:

Tout flamme is a hybrid installation project that attempts to reconstruct an uncertain memory. Through a 2D animated film, augmented models, and augmented drawings, this experience explores visual and auditory interpretations of an altered childhood memory. This autofiction seeks to question the confusion of memories from a past that is both traumatic and ordinary. Based on a short text by Elsa Escaffre, the project offers different fragmented versions of this strange childhood memory, thus questioning the reliability of memory.

The artist:

Simon Leroux studied digital arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai, Belgium, between 2007 and 2012. Passionate about moving images, he met some very creative and slightly crazy people there. Their rather raw approach to creation raised questions in his mind about how to bring his ideas to life and how to disseminate them.

Between video projections, immersive installations, and augmented reality, he develops hybrid projects that combine drawings, moving images, and extended realities.

A fan of very short stories, he explores the possibilities of micro-fiction by questioning visual and auditory memory. These offbeat interpretations of personal, anonymous, or collective archives are often composed of layers or overlays. The virtual overlaps with the real and brings together various elements that give shape to alternative universes.
